I was extremely impressed with Pure Athletics and the job being done there by Patrick.
I can't tell you how many athletic trainers I've had over my career. I've been exposed to strength and conditioning coaches at two powerhouse schools (USC and Stanford), several coaches over my 10 years with the USA team including those actually training the majority of olympians and the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs (all sports), and a dozen more on various teams all over Europe and the world with my professional teams (some of them well respected in their perspective countries). What I witnessed in one day with Patrick over and Pure Athletics is enough to know that he is incredible at what he does.
Sacramento, and specifically Gold Cal Volleyball Club, has a huge resource in Pure Athletics. I am certain that athletes who train at our club with our great volleyball coaches, and follow that up with athletic training with Patrick, will have the best available recipe for success in the Sacramento area. Fortunately, our club dues will include a number of sessions for Gold Cal athletes. This is a first for all major Sacramento clubs.
How do I know? Many of you may be surprised to learn that I was both an exercise science major at USC, and finished with a degree in Human Biology with an area of concentration in Health and Human Performance from Stanford. I spent five year of my life dedicated to learning about Human Exercise Physiology, Sports medicine, and Human Performance (including mental) to consider becoming a Sports Medicine physician some day. I decided after graduating to instead live the things I was studying. So for ten years I have taken my knowledge and applied it to my career.
At 33, I have never had a major injury that has kept me out of action. Lucky? Sort of. Persistent about my health and physical condition? Yes. In fact, even though I was in very average shape I survived Patricks first class without too much soreness now two days later.
My point is, I know now how lucky we are as a club to have Patrick training our athletes as part of their club package. Our club director Melanie should also be given credit for knowing that athletes need high level volleyball training, but also the conditioning and strength aspects off the court, to be successful at the next level.
I hope that everyone is as excited as I am about the upcoming season! Visit pureathletics.com to get in shape before your tryouts and be sure you make the team.
